Pulled Jackfruit Tacos with Avocado Slaw

This recipe is a staple of my friend Jenny’s and it’s so good I’ve asked her for this recipe to share with you.It’s also easy! So don’t be overwhelmed by the Jackfruit, it comes in a can and it’s easy to use. Enjoy!

  • 2 cans of jackfruit drained, rinsed, and patted dry. Cut into pieces, discarding any firmer bits.

  • 1 tbsp chili powder

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp of salt

  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • Oil for frying

  • 1 cup of BBQ sauce​

  1. Toss with the Jackfruit with the chili powder, garlic powder, and salt; let it sit to marinate.

  2. Fry the onion in 2 tbsps of oil.

  3. Add the jackfruit and fry for a couple minutes.

  4. Add BBQ sauce

  5. Add enough water to cover jackfruit. Mix together, cover with lid and cook for thirty minutes, stirring often. Add more water as needed.

  6. Pull apart the Jackfruit with a fork.



  • 1 cup of cabbage, finely sliced or shredded

  • 1 carrot, finely sliced or shredded

  • 1 avocado

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 1 tbsp Maple syrup

  • 1-2 tsp of sal​t


  1. Mash together the avocado, lemon juice, maple syrup, and salt.

  2. Add to shredded cabbage and carrot in a large bowl.

Assemble your tacos! This recipe is best eaten with soft corn tortillas, which you can pick up at Brook Village Grocery (as well as gluten-free tortillas).
