Recipe of the Week! - December 24th

Samosa Wontons

All of the ingredients required for the following recipe are available at the Brook Village Grocery.

-1 medium-sized carrot, finely chopped

-1/2 cup frozen peas, defrosted

-1 medium sized potato, cooked and finely chopped

-1/4 of a large red onion, finely chopped

-1 teaspoon cumin seeds

-1 teaspoon red chili powder

-1 teaspoon turmeric

-1.5 teaspoons lemon juice

-Salt to taste

-Packet of wonton wrappers

-Water to seal of wrappers

-Oil to fry

In a medium sized frying pan, heat up some oil on medium heat to make samosa filling

-Add cumin seeds and let sizzle for 1-2 minutes

-Add onions and cook until translucent (2-3 minutes)

-Add the chopped potato and cook for 5-7 minutes until slightly brown

-Add carrot, peas, turmeric, red chili powder and cook for 5-7 minutes more.

-Add salt to taste

-One minute before taking off heat, add the lemon juice

Let filling cool slightly

Take about one small spoonful of the mixture and place in center of wonton wrapper

Dip one finger (or brush) in water and seal off the wonton wrapper edges by tracing edge with finger

Fold the wonton wrappers into packets (or whatever shape you prefer)

If baking: Spray with oil generously and bake at 425 for 20-25 minutes

If frying: Heat up oil in frying pan and fry wontons for about 30-45 seconds until they puff up a little and are golden brown
